Survey Finds AI Gaining Momentum Across 98% of Enterprises, but Success is Hindered by Data Quality, Visibility, Security and Governance Issues

SAN JOSE, Calif., September 25, 2025 – Broadcom today announced the findings of a new survey, titled “Enterprise AI and the Data Problem.” The report surveyed more than 500 enterprise professionals about their organizations’ planned AI deployments over the next 12 months. Among the most notable findings is that AI is top of mind for nearly all organizations, but several challenges, including issues with data quality, are impeding success.

“AI is delivering real business value, but it isn’t without its challenges,” said Aline Gerew, Head of Automation, Agile Operations Division, Broadcom. “This survey cemented the critical importance of data quality, visibility, and resiliency for successful AI deployments. Those organizations that embrace data automation and orchestration as part of their AI initiatives will free up limited expert resources, address data security and governance concerns, and gain an important competitive advantage.”

Majority Planning New AI Deployments, but Challenges Abound

Survey respondents indicated overwhelming buy-in on AI, with 98 percent of organizations planning new AI deployments in the coming year. That same percentage said they will implement Agentic AI, with 86 percent planning to utilize multiple Agentic AI solutions.

As with any technology, the survey uncovered several challenges unique to AI initiatives, including lack of expertise (61%), security (59%), and data quality (55%).

Data Quality and Visibility are Top Hurdles

Digging deeper, the survey found data quality impacts multiple areas. Respondents cited accessing data from legacy systems (42%) and data pipelines (40%) and governance (45%) as top challenges.

Considering the central role data plays in AI, it’s no surprise that all respondents agree that data automation tasks are critical to AI. The survey found the data automation tasks most used are data processing (62%), refreshing data (58%), and real-time status (54%), indicating that data quality and visibility are key requirements.

Further analysis shows that extracting data from other applications and systems, such as ERP, CRM, supply chain systems, and mainframes, is creating material problems for AI projects. A whopping 96% share that data pipeline performance issues affect AI objectives, led by delays and reduced AI accuracy – issues that can negatively affect end-user experiences.

Centralized Data Pipeline Automation and Orchestration is Critical to Supporting AI

The survey made clear the correlation between data pipeline performance and AI success. In fact, 83% share that AI and data experts spend 10% or more of their time managing data pipeline tools and a third (34%) say it takes more than a quarter of their day. With a growing number of data sources and AI deployments in play, the challenges related to data quality – compounded by the lack of expertise – will only get harder.

Data pipeline automation is a linchpin of any AI initiative. This is further proven by the 93% that plan to use orchestration solutions to manage Agentic AI solutions. Further, 98% state that centralizing data pipeline orchestration would improve data reliability.
